The Iliad, The Odyssey, & The Aeneid

Digital, 2021

Three continuous scenes depicting the major events of the Iliad, Odyssey, and Aeneid that retain the classic colours associated with the epics (while giving a modern vibrant twist!)

The Iliad - Going into this project I knew I wanted there to be a female presence, preferably someone who wasn’t the victim. While the women of Troy suffered greatly, so did the men in battle, which I didn’t want to overlook. Athena fit the bill nicely, and adds a rather imposing form protecting the Greek warrior. I wanted the two figures to be generic representations of the Greek vs Trojan sides (not specific characters). So many characters deserve to be on the cover, and I didn't want to overlook the range of emotion that Homer allows them to demonstrate in the epic.

The Odyssey - This cover depicts a series of events rather than a moment in time. A number of significant enemies and events faced by Odysseus and his men dot the landscape behind his last remaining ship, ending with the cattle of Helios. In the distance on the far right is Penelope, who is usually never depicted on Odyssey covers. While she doesn’t accompany Odysseus, she is one of the driving forces behind his Odyssey and deserves to be included!
