Private Commissions FAQ

What is a private commission?

A private commission is for work made solely for personal use. It does not include any licenses for commercial or promotional use.

What are your price ranges for private commissions?

Since each commission is unique, pricing is always dependent on the project complexity, exclusivity, and the estimated time it will take. While I have no set menu prices, most non-exclusive private commissions begin at £250 per illustration. If you have an enquiry about a potential project I am more than happy to draft an estimate for you!

I take payment via card payment or bank transfer, and commissions below £350 are paid upfront. Commissions of £350 and above have a 25% deposit paid upfront, and the final 75% after the final draft has been approved.

How do I commission you?

To begin the commissioning process, email me at flora@flarohillustration.com or use the enquiry form with a description of your project. Please include:

• the number of illustrations you would need,

• what you would like them to depict,

• (if applicable) any of my existing works that you like to be referenced for style,

• any deadlines you would need the illustration(s) finished by (commissions are sent as digital files, so you will need to arrange for any printing and framing).

Once I have reviewed your email I will send you the pricing estimate. When that is agreed I will provide the contract outlining the terms of the commission and send the invoice. Depending on the illustration I will also ask you to send me reference photos and/or required research before I begin the concept.

How involved am I in the creation process?

Very! My commission process involves three check-in stages, where you may request up to two rounds of edits per stage. These are:

• Stage 1: Concepts

• Stage 2: Rough colours

• Stage 3: Final draft

Once you are 100% happy with your commission I will send the final images electronically via email as Jpegs or PDFs (as needed). The original “working” file is not included.

When can I expect delivery of my commissioned artwork?

Delivery time depends on the complexity of the commission, but is normally 4 - 6 weeks from concept delivery. The contract signed at the beginning of the commission will state the guaranteed delivery date of your project. Faster turnarounds may be possible for a rush fee depending on my schedule.
